Medicare is a federally funded program for those who are 65 and older or are determined to be permanently disabled. Medicare Part A pays for skilled nursing facility services after a medically necessary, three (3) day minimum inpatient hospital stay for a related illness or injury. A Medicare benefit period covers up to 100 days when skilled nursing or skilled therapy services are required to help improve your condition, or to maintain/delay it from getting worse.
Medicaid is a Federal and State program administered through the Department of Human Services for those needing financial assistance in paying for all or part of their health care expenses. Eligibility for Medicaid is determined by an individual's income and assets.
