Vacant Land Evaluations

The Environmental Health program conducts vacant land evaluations for a nominal fee (PDF). An Environmental Health Officer will evaluate wetland and United States Geological Survey (USGS) soil inventories and conduct a physical evaluation of the soil present on site to determine its suitability for placement of a well and/or on-site sewage disposal system.

Drinking Water Evaluation

There are areas of the county where it is not possible to obtain a safe drinking water supply. New construction is not permitted in these areas. A sanitarian will evaluate departmental and state records for known contamination, poor water quality, limited water quantity and areas where attempts to install legal wells have not been successful.
