Electronics and Appliance Recycling
Goodwill Industries of West Michigan, Reconnect Program:
Goodwill Industries and Dell, Inc. are partners in RECONNECT, a statewide computer recycling and reuse program. Older, obsolete computers are taken apart (or “demanufactured”) by Goodwill workers. The parts are then sorted and recycled responsibly. Newer, working computers are refurbished and resold with the proceeds funneling back into workers’ wages. This is a free service to the community that diverts significant toxic, as well as valuable, materials from landfill. The program also provides jobs and wages to persons with disabilities or disadvantages.
Other items such as printers, faxes, laptops and other peripherals are also accepted. Please note, while Goodwill does employ best practices to wipe data from donated computers, donors are ultimately responsible for removing data from their hard drives and other storage media before making their donation.

Television Recycling:
In May 2010, Goodwill Industries of West Michigan launched a FREE TV RECYCLING program in partnership with Universal Recycling Technologies. Now you can get rid of that old tv, guilt free!
Appliance Recycling:
If you are replacing an old dishwasher, stove, or refrigerator, check with the sales clerk or the manufacturer about whether they offer appliance recycling. You can also explore Consumer’s Energy, Appliance Recycling and rebate program!
Additional appliance recyclers can be found under the Muskegon County Recycling Drop-off Facilities guide (see Section R3).
Please note that if you have a non-working refrigerator, air conditioner, de-humidifier or other appliance containing refrigerants that you need to dispose of, you should have the refrigerant reclaimed by a licensed refrigerant reclamation company before recycling (per Title VI of the Clean Air Act). Refrigerants contain stratospheric ozone depleting compounds that must be properly contained. Stratospheric Ozone also known as the “ozone layer” helps protect us from harmful UV rays from the sun.
Quality Appliance of Muskegon is a local, EPA-Certified Refrigerant Reclaimer and will accept appliances for refrigerant recovery and recycling, free of charge.
