The People of Muskegon County are represented at the district court level by assistant prosecutors who ensure that the large number of criminal files which pass through Muskegon County's lower courts are prosecuted diligently and fairly.

The volume of cases processed through the district court is considerable. In keeping with tradition, the District Court Division in the year 2009 effectively obtained the conviction of thousands of criminals for a broad array of violations during the past year.

In particular, Prosecutor Tague has dedicated important resources of his office to protect the victims of domestic violence and to vigorously prosecute their aggressors. This office has used recently enacted domestic violence statutes to protect these victims by advocating stringent bond conditions, "as charged" convictions and tough sentences.

By strictly pursuing enforcement of the domestic violence laws, Prosecutor Tague has sent the message to defendants that the full force of the law will be felt by those who resort to violence in the home.

The District Court Division has also displayed its effectiveness in protecting local business owners by achieving a high conviction rate for retail fraud offenders in the past year. Prosecutor Tague knows that creating a climate in which business can flourish is a key to West Michigan's current and future economic well-being. To help protect business owners from losses created by shoplifters, this office vigorously prosecutes those caught shoplifting in our local businesses and makes certain that restitution is ordered for business owners.
